To many collectors, the 1921 Morgan dollar is as common as it gets. What most collectors fail to realize, however, is the rarity of 1921 Morgan dollars in superb gem grades. It is common through MS65, becomes slightly scarce in MS66, but MS67 1921s become very elusive. PCGS lists 29 coins in MS67 at the time of cataloging and none finer. Compare that to the host of 1880-S and 1881-S dollars in MS68 or even MS68+, and one begins to see the true rarity of 1921 dollars in superb gem condition. The present specimen has very few contact marks and original cartwheel luster.
