Trade dollars from 1881 are a proof-only issue and this present example is one of the nicest that the cataloger has ever seen across the Trade dollar series as a whole. Electric blue toning slides into a deep red at the center of both obverse and reverse, and the gem PR65 grade is accented by CAC approval. The cataloger believes this coin would make for a beautiful centerpiece in a Trade dollar, or type as a whole, collection. Previously seen in the Stacks Bowers Summer 2022 Global Showcase auction.
